Dee was born in Drumheller and has lived here off and on during much of her life. Art and creativity has always been a part of Dee’s journey but she has only been a professional artist since 1998. Dee is mostly self-taught with workshop instruction from well established artists. Her favorite medium presently is Acrylic, yet she is a proficient artist in a variety of mediums. Dee has been juried many times to win awards at both local and provincial shows. Dee teaches art to adults and children as time permits. In addition to painting flowers and other things, Dee spends hours drawing dog portraits of retired police dogs in graphite on a commissioned basis. She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, The Alberta Community Art Clubs Association, The Colored Pencil Society of America and several local art clubs and associations near her home in Didsbury Alberta.
“Art is very personal to both the artist and the viewer. I find it fascinating that for every painting, there is a viewer who feels a connection to that painting. Some idea that has been conceived in someone’s studio and brought to life has found a home in someone’s heart. My passion for painting flowers in acrylic started a few years ago when I realized that I would need to look to the beauty around me for my inspiration for paintings because traveling with small children wouldn’t be an option.”
