GILLIAN MURRAY

Artist Biography

Gillian was born in Victoria, BC where she first took up photography as a young girl.  She studied photography and visual arts at Ryerson, Ontario College of Arts and completed her BFA at the University of Victoria.

She came to Drumheller as a tourist in 1996.  Several return trips to the valley brought her the opportunity to buy an old wooden church in East Coulee, now being restored as her home and studio with the intention of sharing the space for community and special events.

Artist Statement

"Photography has been a lifelong passion of mine.  I also enjoy dabbling with other mediums and materials that capture my interest like painting and creating mosaics.

I am continually inspired by the landscape I live in and the history of the area.  I love the “commute” from East Coulee to Drumheller in all seasons and weather conditions: storm, fog, frost…the way the sunlight washes over the hills and illuminates the prairie top as the shadows dramatically carve into the sculptural landscapes."
