JANICE RUSSELL

Artist Biography

Born into a family rich with creativity, Janice (Berg) Russell was always aware that art was everywhere. On the family homestead near Winfield, Alberta, her parents modeled that beauty was available for the taking or the making, whether in the realm of homemaking – sewing, knitting – from sheep to sweater, embroidery, or in the more traditional sense of art – painting and drawing. Janice was also introduced to woodworking as an artistic expression while observing her parents as they handcrafted glider rockers.

Janice now lives on a local Drumheller area farm where her and her husband raised their three children. She enjoys the changing seasons of the prairies and unrivalled colours of nature, capturing them with her camera whenever possible. As her interest in photography intensified, she took available local and online photography courses to hone her skills. Several portrait prizes have been awarded her as well as three pictures featured in the Drumheller Library Fundraiser Calendar.

Throughout the years, Janice has given vent to her creativity in many expressions. One of her quilts won a prize at a local level as did the window displays she created for the Days Gone Bye gift shop she owned and operated for several years.
